Paver Stripping
Paver Stripping
What is Paver Stripping?
Paver stripping is the process of removing old sealer, coatings, stains, or finishes from brick, concrete, or natural stone pavers. Over time, sealers can turn cloudy, yellow, flake, peel, or trap moisture, which makes the surface look bad. Stripping resets the surface so you can clean and reseal it properly.
No two jobs are the same, so we carry the chemical components and stripping equipment required to remove and renew all kinds of sealers without damaging your driveway, patio, or sidewalk.
Paver Stripping
- Prepare the area – clear debris and protect plants/walls.
- Apply stripper – a chemical solution is put on to break down the old sealer.
- Agitate the surface – scrub or brush so the stripper can loosen the coating.
- Rinse thoroughly – usually with a pressure washer to wash off sealer and residue.
- Repeat if needed – some sealers require multiple rounds.
- Neutralize (if required) – balance the surface so it’s safe for resealing.
- Let it dry – pavers must fully dry before a new sealer goes on.
How to Fix a Failed Sealer
Some oil-based acrylic pavers will turn milky or hazy if they trap water vapor due to improper application. When DIY remodelers put on too many layers of paver sealers, they can destabilize the joint sand and create an uneven look. Sometimes, inexperienced contractors apply sealants without performing prep work on the substrate, creating air barriers, brittleness, and curing problems.
We have performed this process on numerous properties where the owners tried to apply the sealant without professional help, which is always a bad idea, especially for such a long-term investment. Cheap over-the-counter sealants that don’t complement surface materials, low-quality adhesives from overseas, and uneven application are the most prevalent reasons why people request paver stripping.
